The 'Maraschino liqueur' originates from Zadar, on Croatia's Dalmatian coast. Maraska uses the original Maraschino recipe from the 16th century, devised by pharmacists of the Dominican monastery and later re-discovered by Francesco Drioli. After the destruction of Zadar during World War II, Maraska distillery regrew the liqueur's infamy and brought back the region's most famous creation. Deeply set with a tradition in liqueur production, Maraska is a truly quality producer.
This fruity alcoholic liqueur uses distillates of traditional Dalmatian Marasca cherry grown on the distillery's plantation, to produce a naturally fruity aroma and flavour. The original distillery supplied British royalty from Queen Victoria, King George V and the Duke of Edinburgh throughout the 18th and 19th century and is now being brought back to these shores once more.
These estate-grown marasca cherries originate from the Dalmation Coast in Croatia from Maraska’s own grove of over 100,000 cherry trees. The large, naturally dark cherries are then pitted, candied and jarred in Maraska’s marasca sour cherry syrup which with natural bursts flavour.
